Cat Island
02 March 2016
Well we pulled the anchor at 0600 hours and set the sails once. Had it not been for the increasing wind speed there would have been little reason to adjust the sails. We started out with about 13 knots and ended with 20 knots. It was a great sail on a beam reach also known as a "low cost trip". LOL.
Anchored in New Bight off Cat Island, the water is like glass this morning. You can anchor pretty close to shore here and get some protection, but the winds are to be light and variable the rest of the week.
After this sail, we think we have decided not to go back to George Town. As much as we would like to catch up with friends we met early on, it is about a 90 mile out of our way trip. We could just leave from here and hit Eleuthra for our water and laundry and then head to the Abacos from there.
Looks like we may rent a car with the Rombergs and explore the Island and do a little walking and exploring. Cat Island is the boyhood home of Sidney Poitier and has the highlest point in the Bahamas, Mount Alvernia which is 206 feet high. Atop that is the monastery ..... The Hermitage. It actually looks like a miniature castle from the water.
