Easter Monday
28 March 2016
Well, Easter here in the Abacos is much like at home with one large exception. NOTHING.....NOTHING is open but the restaurants. It was a welcome change just knowing there would be no shopping, no groceries to get and no propane tanks filled. That is the way it was when I was younger and sometimes I think things were a lot better back then.
With that being said, the one thing that I found really lovely is that the Methodist church had a 9:30 "Family" service and an 11:00 regular service. The Family service was full of children because at 10:30 they had their annual Easter Egg Hunt. The Catholic church did not hold mass untill noon. I am assuming so that the children of the church could participate in the egg hunt.
Well for our Easter and Anniversary, we moved a little south down the coast of Great Abaco in hopes of snorkeling some since the sun was out and the winds were light. I had not been snorkeling as the current made me so nervous that I feared getting swept away. Greg took the time to take me into an anchorage and let me "practice" for a while. He would make me go into deeper water and come back and made me practice getting into the dinghy. Well the getting back in still needs some work, but I really enjoyed seeing all the little fish that would dart from behind a piece of coral and then come back out. Little blue guys with yellow fins and then what I call a ghost fish as he seemed almost clear in color. So excited to have that behind me, now hoping to take the next snorkel trip to the bigger reefs.
I understand from home that folks had a great day and enjoyed meeting some new faces. Michael and Erika had a lovely day at home with their little ones. We factimed with them for a few moments and got to hear about their "loot". They are growing so fast. I also heard that one in my family (sister of the heart) is going to be a grandmother this year.....exciting. Others were out visiting family across the country.......and still others were celebrating in other countries.
Off today to probably Marsh Harbour. We need to get propane tanks filled, maybe take on some water, provision a bit and then Tuesday head out for some more snorkeling.
