it Is quite comical that we have been in Middlesex and now Gloucester on our trip to Maine. I am sure we will see Mathews soon.
Coming into the Gloucester Harbor was beautiful. For a “working” harbor, it is still quite breathtaking. There is quite a bit of history here but of course the one that sticks out most is the story line and setting of “The Perfect Storm”.
We walked down the waterfront to the Fisherman’s Memorial and read the names of those lost in that storm and then we walked back to the bar “The Crows Nest” where they would hang out. The pictures of these fellows are hung on the wall below the TV for all to see.
The town had everything you could ask for and some really nice specialty shops. I was in search of gourmet items and they have just the shop with crackers, cheese, wines, olives and such.
Back at the boat we watch as the boats keep coming in to pick up moorings or anchor. Seems June is the month that they celebrate the patron saint of fishermen, Saint Peter. There were races in the water and a carnival in town. A very festive town and a definite “must stop” for us. The harbormasters office and their mooring field are in the perfect location for getting into town with the dinghy.
Off to Portsmouth, NH or Portsmouth, ME.......depending on which side we anchor.
