Round Pond Excursion
12 July 2018
With a day of waiting on our agenda, Greg and I headed into Round Pond Coffee for our hour of Internet and delicious home baked goods and coffee. To us it is like a Starbucks but with a Cheers atmosphere....everyone knows your name and the staff is always the same friendly folks. I quickly go to work uploading the blog while Greg catches up on the news and weather.
After coffee I return to the Granite Hall Store where I needed to pick up a couple of things for a very special young lady who is turning five at the end of the month. Yes I was in search of a little surprise to put in the mail as we were within walking distance to the post office, this was my opportunity to take care of that. The store is a delight with so much to see....penny candy and goods for little ones as well as home goods, books, and goodies for the adult. With my purchases secured I sit out on their lovely bench outside and address a few postcards and give Greg the things that go back to the boat as I head to the Post Office. Everyone kept asking if I knew where it was and actually no, I did not but their concern was how far it was to walk. Are you kidding? After being on the boat for a couple of weeks these legs need a good walk and I was off to visit the most helpful postal worker. My postmaster at home, Cindy Glossen and this gentleman make me wonder why we are closing some post offices.
With my packages on their way, I head to the local grocery store, King Ro for some milk and Greg a nice fresh blueberry muffin for breakfast tomorrow as we are hopeful to be back out on our way to Barr Harbor. Now if Greg can get my text at the boat that I am done, we can get a few chores done prior to lunch.
One of the things we have not done is commissioned the water maker this trip so after lunch Greg worked on that and yay......we have water. We have filled the tanks at two marinas thus far but I like not having to worry with that or the quality of the water. With all of this I will add that Greg has been in to check a couple of times to see if our starter has come in or if it is at least out for delivery. It will be delivered by end of day! We sit for a bit and wait patiently checking to see if a brown UPS truck comes near the harbor, but by 4 o'clock with no sign of it Greg checks with Padebco one more time and yes it has arrived. Within a half hour Greg had it installed and we test it out. A beautiful sound to hear an engine start!
With that we go to the local Lobster Coop and celebrate with lobster, steamers (clams), corn on the cob and chips. We met a delightful young couple from the DC area with their two young boys. I get my grandma fix as I watch them run and play while Greg and their dad talk about sailing and their mom and I chat about children, Charlottesville and sailing lessons. We say our goodbyes and head to Giffords for dessert....a two scoop nite and then we head back to the boat to call it a day. We will shove off for Camden/Rockport.
A huge thank you to Sara and Leon and the other lovely folks who made our stay in Round Pond so pleasant. Padebco is a full service yard and a Yanmar guy.......if any of our cruising friends are in Maine and have issues of any kind, we highly recommend checking this destination out and giving Leon and Sara a call.
