Off to Moorehead City
29 November 2018
Up before the sun.....yes 32 degrees outside and it seemed colder than that in the boat but we think it was close to 50. We wanted to get an early jump as we knew we would be pulling in close to sundown if we did not. And as hoped, we arrived at our anchorage at 3:30 which was just perfect.
Coming down the ICW we crossed the Pamlico River where we had received a warning from a fellow boater of winds gusting in the mid thirties. They said, it is a wild ride. We took several waves over the bow and got the previous days salt off the windshield. It was not as bad as we had anticipated and thankfully it was short lived before we made a turn and the wind was on our stern which made for a much nicer ride.
When we turned up the Neuse River, fellow Caliber owner and friend Earl watched as we made our turn at Oriental into the canal. Sorry we did not have time to stop but we are forging on to Key Largo as we are trying to get home for Christmas. Unfortunately we saw some damage from the past years weather. Sad to see sunken boats or homes without roofs along the way.
Entering Moorehead was a bit challenging as the railroad bridge which is "usually open" was not and we where struggling with the current and a fishing boat that was backing up trying to line up better for his passage. We both got through the bridges and we headed to our anchorage amongst the derelict boats on the point. Unfortunately our Portside Marina has lost most of their docks. So sad to see the devastation in this town.
Well as you can see Jaxon is totally excited yet again about his new adventure.
