Time to celebrate
05 January 2019 | Morgans Bluff, Andros
The quarantine flag was raised and the rum drinks were mixed. We are in the Bahamas and it is time to celebrate.
We had a fairly easy crossing. A little more easterly wind than we had hoped but we adjust our course and went north of Bimini and anchored out on the banks near Mackie Shoal Light (no light actually just says so on the chart). At anchor all seemed calm until your head hit the bed. We anchored around midnight and only wanted a couple of hours rest. We wanted to go through the Northwest Channel in the light of day and our timing was perfect. We were up at 4:00 a.m. and headed out in the dark to make our way to the channel.
Our destination would be Morgans Bluff on Andros. It is a hot spot for fishing and the sport fishing boats were pretty active in the area. Makes me wish I had my fishing gear.
We pull into the anchorage....drop anchor.....drop the dinghy and Greg motors to shore to check us in. About an hour later he appears with a long story about how they wanted us to pull the boat into the harbor (we were told earlier that they did not like cruisers using their commercial harbor) and the gentleman was asking questions never asked before in clearing, But after much to do about nothing....we are cleared for 150 days. That is a first for us. Usually you get 90 days and you have to beg for more or go back and get them "renewed" for another couple of months.
But we are here and the rum is out! Greg has already had a Kalik (Bahama brand beer) and life is good. I would say it is hot, but with the breeze I cannot tell a lie......it is what we came for.
