A change of scenery

12 February 2019 | Salina Point, Acklins
We awoke to a beautiful morning. The sky clear and the seas still a little agitated from the winds but the sun is out and all is good. Some of the group we have met are leaving so I want to get in the dinghy and deliver a few items before Greg goes off for his trash run. Lost Shaker and Jubilee II will be heading back north via Long Island and onto Conception and possibly Rum Cay. Delphina has elected to follow us today as we meander down the Acklins toward Salina Point.

It was a hold your breath kind of day for all as we made our trip. 2 Outrageous chart on his iPad was not useable as the battery had died so he was not using his magenta line to navigate but using a rum line from wave point to wave point. Ti Amo’s depth sounder decided to play “guess if you dare” with us and we found even though on the magenta line of the Garmin blue charts, the folks using Navionics were to our port a bit of a distance. We would all meet at the wave points......it was quite an experience. One of our boats carries a 6 1/2 foot draft and getting through some of this area would mean we had to go through at high tide. We left at 11:30 and we were safely tucked in on our rocky shore by 4:00.

The Acklins anchorages have all been rocky and you have to be diligent to either find sand of make sure your anchor has truly set in the rock. Backing down on it is important at 1500 to 2000 rpm once set to assure all is good.
The call comes from 2 Outrageous that there is FREE beer on his boat. It did not take long for folks to hop in their dinghys and head over for a celebratory drinks.

With thoughts of the Jumentos on most of our minds, we talk of plans to leave and like most things the more folks involve, the more opinions we get. Most are happy with leaving in the wee hours and starting our trek if the wind dies below 18 knots. So at 4:00am we are up and awaiting the decision. The wind had died a bit but it was still gusting in the twenties so back to bed we went. Hopefully tomorrow morning will be our time and we will be able to head due west. It comes at a price and that of course is that there is hardly any internet in the Jumentos. Outside of my blog and possibly any family emergency, I really don’t care, but we do have some folks still working and they need the access.

We will wait and see what happens later today. So if you don’t hear from us, you know we are good and enjoying the Jumentos.
