Today would be a day on the dock with winds predicted to be gale force off shore. We would spend the day doing chores and catching up with folks.
We start the morning relaxing with our coffee knowing we are not in any hurry to get underway. That is always a great start to a morning, especially when you are retired and have become accustomed to that pace.
Greg has been chatting down the ICW with a boyhood friend of his from Philly. Bruce Swallow and his younger brother Russ were part of the "hood" if you will, that Greg hung with during his high school years. Bruce has a house near Murrells Inlet and by the way the crow flies that is about four miles from where we are docked. If you look on the map...to get to where we are from Murrells Inlet, it looks so easy but it takes fifty minutes by car as there is no easy access across the waterway from there. Bruce has offered to bring pizza for lunch and catch up with us. We had a great time hearing about he and his family and sharing old stories and the love of old cars. He and Greg enjoy tinkering on old cars and discussed some stuff about engines that was way over my head. Greg has fond memories of his years in Philly and his friends from there.....it was truly a delight to catch up with Bruce.
We have invited Pete and Dixon from Spartina as well as Sandy Carey, a single handler who is docked between us. The menu is growing as I think of these three enjoying a nice home cooked meal. Linguine with clam/shrimp sauce with a Caesar salad and homemade bread followed by an apple crisp. It was a great meal and a great time listening to everyone’s stories. Some tall tales may have been shared at this table but there may have been some told this night that may top them all. Great fun though I wish I would have remembered to get a photo of the event.
We have plans to shove off in the morning so we end the night and prepare for our departure.
