Lessons Learned Along the Way

Having grown up in a small rural area, I am come to learn that in order to “get” things, you have to sometimes work to get them. I recall as a small child the drive on a Saturday morning with my grandmother to catch the “Ashland Bus” to Richmond to go to Thalhimers or Miller and Rhoads Department stores. Now living in a somewhat rural area again I find myself ordering more things via Amazon than making a drive into the big city. So the face of shopping has changed over the years for “goods and services”, but the one that eludes me at home is the grocery shopping. My son and his wife love the grocery store “apps” and then driving to pick them up as they have three children and it just makes sense and offers them more time spent doing other things. Where we live there is no such offering from any nearby grocery stores but today.......we are doing it! Publix offers free delivery on your first order and they will deliver to the marina where we have picked up our mooring ball. A game changer! Joanna, my shopper, has text me to tell me she is shopping and informs me of all substitutions. I reply to approve the substitutions and within thirty minutes I am getting the text to let me know she is on her way with our groceries. All greens looks wonderful as well as the chicken and ground turkey. I am SOLD! This is definitely the way to go when you are on a boat and have no land transportation.
After stowing our groceries, we head into town with Jaxon in tow to find lunch and enjoy some retail therapy or window browsing. We find a place that has outdoor seating and live music. Greg stays there with Jaxon listening to music and enjoying another libation while I go walk a bit to some other shops.
2 Outrageous is having their friends Nadine and Dave for appys and dinner and have invited us as well. When we arrive at 4:30 we find Joyce and Matt from Duchess aboard with a friend. We met them last year in the Bahamas at Lee Stocking Island. We enjoyed catching up with them a bit and then they progressed on into town.
The sun has gone down and the lights have come on. The city is beautiful with their Christmas lights as well as some of the boats in the harbor. It was a lovely night.
