And Just LIke That!
19 December 2019 | Key Largo, FL
Up early for coffee. For those that know us, we love our coffee hour (or more) in the morning. And some of us like it a certain temperature as well as a certain strength. We have lost several coffee pots over the years but this year the new one has been working like a charm.....and just like that.......the generator stops. I mean it just shuts down......and when we try to start it back up......nope....it ain’t happening. So with that, the coffee doesn’t get made. Greg is pulling the generator apart while I am working on figuring out the Bialetti Expresso maker which we use in times like these.
And just like that......Greg has figured out the issue and has removed the raw water pump that has frozen up on us. We search our spreadsheets for a replacement and cannot see where we have one on the boat. With a quick call to Ryan we find that there is a marine repair in Key Largo that is a Northern Lights dealer and just like that.....the part is ordered.....we have rented a car and we are on our way to pick it up. If you are familiar with Key Largo at all.....this is the northern part of Key Largo that is on route 905 and is a bit expensive. Where Route 1 connects to the bridge to the mainland, route 905 breaks off and is further north. The area is called Ocean Reef I believe. Well.....the shops....Orvis, Lily Pulitzer, Black Dog and many others.....the entire area and the way it is set up with a market and golf carts all round reminded us of Bald Head Island. I looked for Mil Kelly because it just looked like her kind of place.
And just like that.....we have the part from Tom Gallagher’s and we are back on the road headed to fix Ti Amo’s generator. We have a party tonight to get ready for at the Tiki Hut on Heart Harbor and I need to get stuff to make a large Caesar salad so I drop Greg and Jaxon at the boat and I head out to the store. Of course my list grows while I am in the store and I now have eight bags of stuff. We need to leave Florida soon......I have become to accustomed to being able to buy whatever I need or want. Yes even Amazon has become too comfortable.
I return to Ti Amo.....and just like that....the water is kicking out of the back of her and I hear a gentle hum which means one thing.....the generator is working. Life is so good, you know?
I step out to help Mari-Etta and Ed with a few things before folks start arriving at 5:00 for the pizza/salad/key lime pie feast. Wow! We had nine of us and it was so much fun. Ed has several fantastic playlists on his phone and has the Jimmy Buffet Christmas music going. We are all in the spirit and talk about what our plans are for Christmas. We will stay here and have our meal with Ed, Mari-Etta, Dave, Clora and Ryan. Steve and Lizzie will be heading to Fort Lauderdale and meet up with other friends and enjoy the holiday with them.
Ian called me on FaceTime with headphones complete with a microphone that he received from the dentist office. It was so good to see that face and have fun playing with different effects on the phone. He is growing up so fast....actually that should say he is growing up too fast.
After a few more songs, we are all bidding our farewells and heading in for the night. The temperature is dropping pretty fast and we can feel the wind kicking up. We will “rock the night away” as the wind sways us this way and that.
