So the instructions were clear......make a pizza......any kind and bring it to the yacht club at 5:00. Simple, yes? Nooooo!
We started the day by inviting our friends on Southern Star over for a tour of Ti Amo. They were going to get back with us later for a time so I started making my pizza dough knowing it would take a bit of the day for rising. So following a new recipe (which in itself is recipe for disaster) I proceed to mix my flour, sugar, salt, yeast and water. Looks like pizza dough to me. Plop it in a grease bowl and cover with plastic....let rise for an hour.
Radio call from Southern Star is they will be over in an hour. About that time the captain and I got sidetracked and forgot we were filling water bottles off the water maker......YIKES. The carpet in the kitchen would be put out in the sun to dry and we had puppy towels out mopping up the rest of the water.
I grab a quick shower and mix up some Bloody Mary’s for our guest who have arrived. We sit and enjoy talking about their upcoming trip home to New Zealand. This is the third couple we know of headed there. A lovely visit with Jenny and Ted and soon they are off to go work on their pizza.
The radio chatter is silent which should have been the first clue that everyone was “stressing” or concentrating on the ONLY task of the day! PIZZA!
My dough has risen and is ready to bake. I made enough for two (according to the recipe) however it hardly stretched without several holes I try to patch. I am not happy but I put it in the oven as instructed to let it bake for five minutes. Thin and crispy with obvious holes in it. Oh well.....I then add shredded chicken, barbecue sauce, peppers, onions and cheddar cheese. It went back in the oven for some additional time and then we head into the yacht club.
Pizzas, plates, drinks, napkins, ice, cups, fork, knives, pizza cutter and spatula! Check, check, check we have it all.
I am so upset that my crust was not was it was supposed to be but it is what it is. Next come 2 Outrageous and after moments I hear her story of stressing and her dough ended up like thick bread dough. Then another came with other issues and another. It was hysterical how everyone had a story about making pizza. It was just like sitting on the Food Network Wars explaining what I made and what I learned I could do better.
TOO FUNNY! Best night ever!
