Treasures

13 February 2021 | Pelican Bay

Along our walks on the beach we have found many treasures.....some inhabited and others worn or broken. Symbolic for me in a lot of ways as we look at a shell or a piece of drift wood and imagine the pounding of the ocean waves and the turbulent surf. As I think about their path to where they are now, I reflect on my own life and what that path looks like. Like the shell or the driftwood, the lines that now adorn my face tell my story.

Other treasures we have come across here at Caya Costa, Pelican Bay Anchorage are the friendships we have made in two lovely couples. One couple about our age on a Grand Banks Europa called Frost Free. They are from Pennsylvania, he a retired pharmacologist and she a retired nurse. They have a Havaese named Ralph. Ralph and Jaxon got along so well and just enjoyed having playmates. Belinda is a power walker so she and I hit the trails doing a good five mile walk. Gary and Greg talked trawlers and Pennsylvania memories while we enjoyed appys together a couple of nights. They left the anchorage on Friday and headed further north to Tarpon Springs.

Thursday evening late a Caliber 40 named Gracie pulled into the anchorage. Anyone who knows Greg knows he is in his dinghy getting all the scoop. Another treasure. Dan and Vicky hail from Nashville but keep their Caliber at St Petersburg Florida. They have just sold their exterminating business and have yet to hit the big “five-o”. With two sons in their 20’s they feel now is the time to sail to places they have dreamt of before the grandchildren or aging parents slow them down. (I hope our children and aging father are not reading this...lol). Anyhow we had a delightful dinner with the two of them aboard Ti Amo and really enjoyed their story.

This anchorage for us is what the cruising life is like......picking up treasures along the shore and in the anchorage. Boat cards exchanged and friendships made will last a lifetime. What fun!
