The plan 2008 - Back again

19 July 2008
The return trip should ideally be a repeat of last year's summer cruise. Leisurely stroll up the Normandy coast.

I want to stay away from Cherbourg & St Vaast. Half the UK South Coast will be there. So, a long(er) trip to Fecamp. I don't like the place much (understatement) - concrete, crowded, filthy,... The only good memory I have of Fecamp is Benedictine ice cream.
I would prefer Braye - St Valery en Caux non-stop, but I fear it will be impossible. Entry to St Valery is 2 hours either side of HW. After a 120NM trip, you're never sure when you'll arrive. We might arrive just too late or hours early. If at all possible I would still go straight to St Valery, but I guess I'll make that call when we get there.

St Valery en Caux: I love the place. France as you think it should be. Good food (again understatement), friendly people (no kidding), unhurried and unspoilt... I could live there.

Next stop - Dieppe: a livelier version of St Valery. The kids like it, more of a happening place. The Normandy version of Ostend. Not bad, not bad at all.

Boulogne-sur-Mer: last year was an improvement over our last stop there. This year we might even stay a day as I've been led to believe that the Thallasa aquarium is well worth seeing.

Then there are two options open to us: either back home via Ramsgate or a detour to Ostend.
If we miss Ostend at the start of the trip (as is now looking ever more likely) than I would like to make it our last port of call before heading home.
Ramsgate will be packed anyway - Ramsgate week. And I quite keen to avoid the crowds.
Weather and time will dictate what we do.
