Time for a new start

Rocyn - not too relevant right now
After an earlier adventure and attempt to circumnavigate we have had a strong desire to re-visit the West Coast of Scotland.
This is on the 'bucket list' and this is the year.

We leave in a couple of weeks time to wend our way along the south coast, up the Irish Sea and eventually fetch up in Oban.

Then we will spend out time in a leisurely cruise of the area. Some times we will be joined by chums for a while and others we will see just how well we can get along wandering about in the boat together.

So, dear reader, thank you for your support so far and watch this space to see how our adventure continues.

Catching up

Rocyn - read the post!
The absence of broadband and watching a well crafted plan fall apart have meant that postings here are few and far between.

For the moment we are in Flmouth. Way up the river and hiding from last night's gale and whatever happens today. The barometer trace looks like it should be a roller coaster layout for Alton Towers!

Sarah arrived last night on the train from Fishguard. That was supposed to be our rendezvous point. But that's sailing.

Dinner here at the marina, put out extra lines and settled down for the roller coaster night.

Morning and the wind seems to have eased and nothing appears to be broken. If it stops raining I will go and look.

The joys of Torquay

Well, here we are after the dash - well for us it was a dash, along the south coast.

There was Rye to Brighton, uneventful, 13:00 off. But motoring most of the way to arrive at 23:00. Kicked our heels waiting for the tide in Brighton to do the Solent in daylight.

Brighton to Swanage, a long leg with an anchor for the rest of the night.

Then an early start 03:00 for a motor all the way to Torquay for another 23:00 arrival.

Sadly lots of motoring but we are making the miles.

Now we have to take on new diesel and get ourselves off for the next legs to get us to Milford Haven for next weekend.

Hello Hissing Sid*

18 May 2015
Hissing Sid is the latest addition to the fleet. He is a 13foot folding dinghy to repalce the previous inflatable that I got fed up with.

Sid is new to us, he is a PortaBote, an american make of folding boat. Sarah and I took it for a play in the river. This passed off without significant incident - we did discover that the outboard was not wanting to be involved in this adventure and that Sid is quite easy to row.

We shall see how the summer proceeds and we take Sid to new and exciting parts of the United Kingdom.

*The name? Well we bought him and he was already called Hissing Sid and it seemed a fun name for a dinghy.

The stern gland

Well it looks like we have a solution. A new stern gland that has a pressure water feed and does not drip.

We await developments and hopefully not having to check the bilges every couple of hours.

Getting sorted

A hectic few days to clean up and get a long list of things sorted.

As ever events get in the way and the list gets culled vigourously.

Back in the water after a scrub and polish. And the fitting of the new stern gland. Hopefully this will work better than its precedessor.
