Lots of Rain

We left Solomoms and headed north to St Michaels. St Michaels is another on of those charming towns in the Chesapeake that we always wanted to stop at but never found the time. We anchored close to the marina so we had a short dinghy ride into town. Our first day was real nice however our next 2 days [...]

Our Journey Home

Our crossing went well if you like 7 foot seas that make the boat roll and roll. Lunch consisted of crackers and humus. After a 10 hour sail. Yes we could sail. We landed in Ft Pierce. Spent almost a week in Vero Beach. While we were in Marsh Harbor a girlfriend that I hadn't seen in 20 years approached [...]

Great Sailing

Today we had a great sail from Great Sail Cay to West End. We sailed most of the morning at about 7 knots with a north wind. Wind died down in the afternoon which turned out great as we need a high tide coming through Indian Cay. Our 6 foot draft has made many of our sailing days a challenge in the [...]

Lubers to Hope Town

The weather this past week was nearly perfect. Although there were a few days we would have liked a bit more wind for sailing. We started the week off with a sail to Lubbers Quarters. A small island just west of Elbow Cay. We had lunch at Cracker P’s and spent the rest of the afternoon walking [...]

Oriental to Charleston SC

30 October 2015

We had a delightful overnight stay in Oriental SC. Oriental is one of my favorite little seaside towns. Beautiful homes and just so quaint. Then we headed down to Morehead City for a night before making our overnight sail to Charleston. Once again we had an excellent forecast and once again we had no wind. So no we really didn't sail. We had a star lit night with a 3/4 moon making for an easy passage. We arrived mid day on Saturday with reservations at Charleston City Marina. We were there mostly to have a few left over warrantee projects done on the boat but also we do love Charleston. It was fun to see friends Ron and Mercedes aboard Samana that we met last year in the Bahamas. Sadly they will not be making the trip this year.
As I look back in my log book I see that every trip to Charleston always brings an unusual weather pattern. This time it didn't fail us. Charleston is experiencing unusually high tides this week. A combination of factors lead up to this. A supermoon, onshore winds, a slowing Gulf Current and sea level rise. Add to this an enormous amount of rain fall the last 2 days. Maggie of course was delighted to find a foot of water to play in as we took our morning walk.
Our other reason for always stopping in Charleston is my sister and husband live about 45 minutes from here on Seabrook Island. The rains have subsided and it looks like a good window to take our 20 mile ride down the ICW and head to Seabrook.
