s/v Gypsy Wind

We are preparing our 40 year old Tartan "TOCK" 41 for an extended cruise. The plan is to leave So. California for Mexico and the Sea of Cortez, first. Eventually, we would like to sail east, to Florida and cruise there, the Bahamas, and do the ICW.

It came! Now I know its 2012!

I always look forward to receiving the current year's almanac. When it arrives, I look through the pages and I make sure the 57 navigation stars are all there (they are), I check to see that our two governments are still sharing the joint US/UK project (they are), and in general, I try to justify the additional expense of buying the government version instead of the commercial one (I can't).

I bought a fresh digital watch (we used to call this, an expensive item, the Ship's Chronometer. Now its a cheap Casio. These watches are accurate well beyond what's required for celestial navigation aboard a slow moving sailboat (my watch even receives the atomic clock time tick, and tracks UT'C, automatically).

I added a couple of fresh pencils to my kit (with good erasers), and a new pad of plotting sheets.

I will be moving all my celestial navigation gear back aboard Gypsy Wind in the next few weeks.

So there you have it. Happy New Year!
