s/v Gypsy Wind

We are preparing our 40 year old Tartan "TOCK" 41 for an extended cruise. The plan is to leave So. California for Mexico and the Sea of Cortez, first. Eventually, we would like to sail east, to Florida and cruise there, the Bahamas, and do the ICW.

The fridge and deep freeze aboard Gypsy Wind is large, but the insulation is old, so it works ok in temperate climates, but I am quite sure its going to struggle when we get to tropical weather. We have updated the whole system, mechanically, but the cold box would need a complete and impractical rebuild for it to really be an effective, rock solid system again. So, here are some photos of our latest addition to our aging cruising platform. Its an Engle MT35, a cooler type of thing that plugs into either 110 or 12 volt, and will either refrigerate, or freeze, whatever you like (we like ice cubes). We have heard good things about these devices from friends that have used them, and so we ordered one. I added a 12 volt socket right near where we'll store the thing (its going to live under the forward companionway steps). So far, it works like a champ.
