I'm Alright (Nobody Worry 'Bout Me)

06 August 2014
We're in the Canadian groundhog capital of Wairton tonight, Gateway to The Bruce Peninsula and home of Punxsutawney Phil's cousin Wairton Willie. Willie is a full grown albino groundhog. For those of you not familiar with the whole rodent predicting spring thing, you can check out the Bill Murray movie detailing the importance of the multi-national annual event at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSVeDx9fk60.

Now personally, as far rodent movies go, I much prefer Caddy Shack, arguably the best golf movie made, and the source of some of my best lines! I'm a bit skeptical of a rodent's ability to predict weather. However, given the track record of Environment Canada this summer, a large white rat may be just as good as a university educated meteorologist. But I digress....

We had a great sail most of the way here and the town is at the end of a 10 mile sound with several very high rock cliffs running down the sides. The town is pretty well equipped as far as services and stores go...it even has a Tim Hortons, not 1 but 2 dollar stores, a post office, LCBO and Beer Stores, grocery store, a hospital, airport and several restaurants. We even lucked out and hit the tail end of the Wednesday night classic car show. Like many other small towns in Ontario, the main street has seen it's heyday and has several closed up businesses. It's kinda sad that these places have their best days behind them.

Finn got to show off for a few people tonight playing with his Chukit ball...at warp speed. He came back grass stained but very happy and it was good that he got some exercise. The weather is supposed to get hot for the next few days so we're gonna find an anchorage tomorrow and enjoy some water activities.
