It's Been 1 Week

17 August 2014
Well, wonders never cease. Saturday night the wind dropped....to zero! We took Finn out for his last fire prevention bush watering and saw these really weird things in the sky. They were like little pinpoints of light and they were everywhere. Somebody said they were called stars.

The sun came out on Sunday morning and we headed out bright and early before the weather gods changed their minds. There was zero wind again and the waves were small coming out of the north west. A bit of rolling action but we didn’t care...we had broken the curse of Goderich! I plotted a course directly for Sarnia which would take us 15 miles off shore. However, as the morning wore on the wind started to build and the waves changed direction so we had to alter course to smooth out the ride.

Just after noon we started to notice these little flies starting to land on the windows, deck and every other surface of the boat. They weren’t our long lost mini biting house flies but there ended up being thousands of them by the end of the day. We were miles off shore so I can only conclude they came out of the lake. By the time we hit Sarnia the boat was mess. But, we had made the port and were off Lake Huron!!!

Today’s photo is of 1 of the 3 Gozzard boats at the marina. This one is a 44’ that the owner brought back to Gozzard to have it refit and cleaned up. It was absolutely beautiful! I don’t know what they charge but a large part of their business is refitting boats they have sold in previous years. People literally bring them back to Goderich from all over the globe for this service. These are definitely out of our price range but they’re a serious contender if we ever land the lottery.
