I Know, It's Only Rock and Roll (but I like it!)

21 August 2014
Well, after a very noisy night at Lakeside Yacht Club, we awoke to another scorcher of a day. The club is situated approx. 100 yards from Hwy. 90, which is the equivalent of the QEW. On the outside breakwater there is an airport runway that services an airport slightly smaller than Billy Bishop, without the Porter flights running all day. Top it all off with a rail line that runs just on the other side of the hwy, and you have the perfect recipe for a stay up all night adventure.

But, we were not side tracked by this. We hit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and spent most of the day there. Finn, after having a nice walk in the morning, decided he would luxuriate in air conditioned comfort on the boat for the day vs looking at a bunch of old clothes and instruments at the end of a 2 mile walk in the heat.

Anyway, if you like music then this place is worth the trip. There were some very excellent movies throughout the Hall and they did a great job of tracing the history of this music back to its “Afro American” roots. They have lots of great collectible items from many of the big names that include instruments, costumes, concert posters, jewelry etc. The venue is right on the lake close to the Cleveland Browns Stadium (not sure of the new name as they have just redone it). The ironic thing is that there is a marina right at the venue which could have saved us a very warm and sticky walk, and likely provided a much more peaceful atmosphere for sleeping than where we were. Who knew?!

Upon our return to the boat in the late afternoon we broke out the bikes to get some groceries. Sam searched out the closest store and off we went. What we didn’t know was this was in a very rough part of town and let’s just say, 2 tourists riding fold up bikes with helmets on (they don’t even require helmets on motorcycles here) had no problem standing out in the crowd! We got to the store and I told Sam to go in and grab what she needed quickly while stood outside trying to look tough and protect our rides. There was even an armed security guard in the store......need I say more! We high tailed it out of there with enough speed to qualify for the 2016 individual time trials in cycling for the 2016 Olympic Team, so watch for us when the time comes! Made it back to the boat and had a drink to celebrate surviving this day!
