Wanted, Dead or Alive

30 December 2016 | Tombstone
The resort here in Benson is pretty nice so we decided to stay for 3 days and see some of the local attractions. We got the rig set up and even have high speed internet....that is actually high speed!!! Apparently it's supposed to be on a pay per day basis but we got logged on to it as it's fully open so I'm ain't gonna argue. I may have accidentally downloaded a few new Netflix movies for use later on when we don't have TV reception. My brother in law gave me an Apple to HDMI converter cable so we can play things from the Ipad on the TV. (Thanks Mark, it works great!)

Having full internet connectivity I was also finally able to get our cell service set up with data so our phone is now fully functioning. We got a plan with ROAM Mobility out of Vancouver and it works fine but their support is only available via email so it's kinda tough troubleshooting when you don't have internet and you can't use data on your cell because it doesn't work! But, we're all set now and will have google maps available to us when reality doesn't align with our navigator T. Tom.

So, after our Walmart run we headed down to Tombstone which is approx 40 miles south of us. I was surprised at how un-tourist trapped it is. Sure, it's got a Main Street that looks like the old west town and lots of stores, restaurants and souvenir shops, but it looked more authentic than trashy. And, the prices of things like food and attractions was not outrageous. But, a word of caution here, It is illegal in Tombstone for anyone over 18 to have more than 1 missing tooth visible when smiling. Perhaps this is linked to several street vendors selling Polident.

They also run a reenactment of the gunfight at the OK Corral (made popular by several movies including the Kurt Russell 1993 instalment followed by the Kevin Costner version is 1994....really guys, don't you talk? Actually, I liked both movies). Anyway, in Oct of 2015, an actor in the show and a spectator were actually shot when 1 of the performers had live ammunition in his gun vs. Blanks. Apparently they didn't check his gun before the show. Talk about authenticity! Guns, guns, guns!

We continued on south from here to a quickly town that sits in deep valley surrounded by mountains called Bisbee. This is an old mining town that boasts " The Best Year Round Climate on Earth". I'm not sure how they came to that conclusion as the tourist information rep told us they had 2' of snow on Christmas morning but hey, what do I know? The town made it's fortune in earlier years mining copper and other minerals. Now, it seems have been taken over by the artistic crowd with many eclectic shops and stores. We went in 1 that dealt with hand made bicycles, all of them fairly old, and nothing really for sale.

The town encourages people to be themselves and we certainly saw a lot of that. We passed an old school bus done up with dark windows parked near where we left the truck. Upon our return there were numerous old hippies falling out of the bus in a cloud of dope smoke. The Glaucoma express perhaps? The funny thing is, it really wasn't out of place in Bisbee!

Headed for home as security dog was patiently holding down the fort for us.
