We hit the road once the temperature got above freezing in the morning. There was hardly any traffic on the roads as I believe people were too afraid to drive in the snow. The weather quickly warmed and it was 14C in no time.
Once we got into Louisiana we got into the roller coaster ride on their "roads". For some reason Louisiana can't pave a level surface and we weren't McLovin' it too much. Highway 20 was an undulating track that got our rig bouncing like a kangaroo on a trampoline. It didn't matter what speed we were going, it would start bouncing and get considerably more severe until I backed off the gas and slowed way down. Interspersed with the washboard were pot holes to test the integrity of our tires. The road had more holes than tree trunk at a woodpecker convention but we managed to make it through unscathed. It's been said that the problem in Louisiana is the the high water table due to the swampy ground conditions but it was funny how the road in Mississippi was fine and as soon as we crossed the Mississippi River, we found ourselves on the roller coaster.
We managed to get to Marshall Texas to spend the night. We met a couple at this park that had a brand new version of our pick up truck. Apparently it was the 3rd truck this guy had in about 4 months because he didn't like the other 2. Must be nice to have unlimited funds (or a friendly bank manager) but I know a 3/4 ton diesel Silverado is worth approx. $100k and that's why we don't have 1!
