All my Ex's Live in Texas

13 December 2017
Moved to San Antonio today. We stayed in the same place we spent Christmas last year. The park is OK but not the kind of place you would want to spend any length of time. The internet is next to non-existent, even though the Wifi antenna is within 100' of our rig. If you log on late evening or early morning you have a chance. Otherwise, forget it or drive to place in town with Wifi.

I got talking to a BC couple just down the road from us. They had a two behind trailer that had seen it's best days......years ago from the looks of it. She told me they were on the lookout for a sailboat so they could be live aboards in the winters. They were heading for the Gulf Coast to start their search thinking there would be lots of great deals on hurricane damaged boats. And not just any boat either. She wanted a catamaran of at least 50' in length because they have lots of room in them, doncha know.

I asked about their boating experience and they had none! They just got their Pleasure Craft Operators Cards so apparently they think they're good to go. Now, buying damaged boat is risky for anyone, but not having any experience or boating knowledge and going into a 50' boat with the intention of sailing the Gulf and Panama Canal is a recipe for disaster in my books. Lucky for me this is outside of the Brighton Coast Guard's range or I'm sure I'd be seen if them again.

We did the San Antonio tourist stuff and the Alamo was actually open this year so we did a tour of it. There were a lot of Live Oak trees on site, 1 which had a drip line of 75'! Sometimes the branches of these trees spread out and actually contact the ground for support but this one was the full, unsupported span! amazing strength considering the weight of the branches.

Downtown San Antonio appears to be undergoing a huge renovation where large blocks of old storefronts have been bought up and are undergoing renovations. The area itself appears a bit sketchy but there are tourist assistance on most corners offering to direct you to any of the local attractions. We did the river walk for part of our trek as well, which is the US version of Venice, with water taxis and tour boats navigating the canals.

When we returned to our rig a "new" motorhome had arrived in the spot next to us. Now, a lot of these RV parks and resorts have a rule about RV appearance and some even have conditions where your rig must be 10 years old or newer. Most have clauses that's the mgmt. reserves the right to refuse units based on appearance.

Well, I guess there was a solar eclipse when this one arrived because it looked like the rolling meth lab from Breaking Bad just pulled in beside us! I've seen some really nice looking older RVs, some even classics due to their age, but I was surprised this made it in under its own power. From the duct tape front bumper to cloths hanging off every horizontal protrudence, this thing made the Trailer Park Boys look like the 4 tenors! Luckily, we were leaving in the morning.
