Mission Impossible
07 January 2018

The last 2 days have been pretty good weather wise. It got up into the 70's but a bit of a wind kept things cool. Back at the "resort" (they call it that on their sign but I'd say they're straining their poetic license on that one) the hot tub is back in operation just in time for the weather to get warm. We did get a chance to sit out on Saturday afternoon and have a beer.....first time since we left Ontario but compared to back there I shouldn't complain.
We hit the "other" swap meet on Saturday. This was the good 1 according to the people we met at the New Year's party. Well, it was geared towards tourists vs the other 1 we went to that was for the locals. Lot's of vendors selling all kinds of stuff you don't want but it was entertaining. They had an outdoor food section and a 2 piece band playing music which we checked out for half an hour. It was a guy and his wife from Missouri, her on the keyboard and banjo, and him playing the bass. This was better than the group the resort had for New Year's, and the price was right.
On Sunday we headed to IHOP for their all you can eat pancake breakfast special. Always good food for the money there. We then headed west to Mission to check out their museum and, guess what....closed on Sundays. Would you not think tourist attractions would be open on weekends???
So, we drove around looking for something to do. Checking our Garmin for attractions and it's coming up with a few hotels and motels....and not much else. We ended up hitting a mall with a Ross outlet. Another bust aside from a great deal on a new cheese grater. ( I know what you're thinking but that's a highlight down here!) With that, we gave up and headed back to the rig. A chance to update the blog with our rivetting adventures over the past week. We also are resting up for our trip across the border tomorrow as Sam has an appointment with a recommended dentist there for a new night guard in efforts to rectify her mouth pain.
We've noticed several of the structures captured in today's photo for this blog entry stationed in parking lots of Home Depot, malls and just on the sides of busy roads. I did some research and they are called Sky Watch Towers. They are used by police to intimidate would be shop lifters, car thieves and traffic offenders and reduce the incidence of crime. They have flashing blue lights and cameras on top of them and have dark tinted windows. The idea is that you don't know if anyone is inside watching or not but apparently is a deterrent to the incidence of crime in locations where they are deployed. In some jurisdictions they use trained volunteers to man the trailers so you never know if you're being watched and filmed....so be good for goodness sake!
