Mexican Radio

10 January 2018
We had a good trip to Mexico on Monday and Sam got a new night mouth guard, a prescription for Robax Gold and 45 minutes with the dentist for $60! And, it seems to have solved her problems. The town we went to was a walk across a bridge that spans the Rio Grande. Once in Mexico the hordes descend upon you trying to sell you dental work, doctor's visits, manicure, pedicures hair cuts, prescriptions and food along with the obligatory tourist souvenir junk. I'm sure there's lots of money being made down there though as the place was packed. Still it only took us 5 minutes lined up to come back to the US vs. the 2 hour wait we had last year when we crossed in Arizona.

We have also been in the market for a portable clothesline that we could mount in the shower as some parks, like this one, don't allow the hanging of laundry outside unless it was pool wear. I found out you can only use the "I fell into the pool wearing all of these clothes that's why they're hanging outside" line on them a couple of times before they clue in. It's amazing how many rules they have here and how many they don't enforce. Some of the permanent places here are very nice while others look like they could use a tornado to improve them....no, really! But I digress....we have damp towels from our daily showers that need to air dry each day so this is a good solution that keeps them out of the way and doesn't damage any of the woodwork like hanging them on cupboard doors does.

Anyway, we found a nice compact unit on the Home Depot website after checking the usual places around here so Sam ordered to the nearest store as they don't stoke it in the stores. It gets here a few days early (wow, that hardly ever happens) and we go to pick it up. Now, because we're Canadian, they won't let us pay for it with our credit card because they need a US Zip code for their records. So, we have to buy a gift certificate with our credit card and then pay for it with the gift card.

But wait, it gets better. We take it home and open it up and it's the wrong thing. The paperwork is correct but the item in the package is incorrect. So, back to the store we go for a refund. Not so fast! You can't get your money back only a store credit or gift card because that's what we paid for it with. It's their error, which they admit, but even the manager couldn't make it happen. So, now we have a US Home Depot card we need to use up.

Rather than trying to order it again and potentially having it arrive after we leave the area, I decide to McGiver something that will work. I scrounged a piece of aluminum tubing and used to with some light rope and a couple of spring clamps and voila, 4 lines of drying room that can be removed in 20 seconds when we need to use the shower.
