Ep 53 Twistin’ By The Pool
14 January 2025 | Lucaya last day.
Bill Bernaerts | xcellent!

We've settled into a routine of alternating days of walking or hitting the gym to keep some degree of fitness. Sam was a very dedicated fitness class participant back home and I either ran or biked a few times a week to stay in shape. Actual sailing can be a workout in itself but seeing as we've been sitting here for almost 2 months we need to keep active. the old saying is you lose 3 weeks of fitness for every week you don't exercise so we don't want to backslide too far on this.

The gym here is pretty basic with a few cardio machines like stationary bikes, stair climber and elliptical machine (which I had to repair) along with a lot of dumbbells, barbell set and strangely enough, a cross country ski simulator (you never know when you'll go skiing in the Bahamas)! There is are 2 unheated pools and 1 hot tub, which could be anywhere from 80-104f on any given day. We don't see too many people in the gym but it's great to get a 45 minute workout done to set you up for the day. On days we go snorkeling, we come back and hit the hot tub to warm up and work out all the twists and kinks. Lots of kids over the Christmas break playing in the pool as well.

The planets look like they are aligning where the weather is concerned so we're planning on making a break for the Berry Islands on Thursday this week. There are 2 good days of combination wind speed and direction along with minimal wave activity so it's go time!
We have lots to do in the next couple of days from filling water tanks, checking engine and rigging, storing the dinghy and outboard as well as last minute provisioning for food, fuel and propane. We are still on our first 10lb. tank of propane which has been used daily for our cooking on the stove along with any BBQing we've done. If you were following along when we were in Jacksonville back at the end of October we did try and get the tank filled but the attendant said it hardly took any so we're still running on this tank with a full spare as back up. Heading south from here becomes a lot more remote with provisioning opportunities fewer and further between so best to load up here where the availability and pricing is better.
We plan to cast off at sunrise on Thursday as we have almost 60 nautical miles to go to our anchorage. We will be updating our position on the nNO FOREIGN LAND app so you will be able to follow our route. If you missed how to get this app from a previous post you can go to this url: https://www.noforeignland.com/app, or the APP STORE to get access. From there you just need to search for our boat name "AMARUQ" and our last posted position will be shown.
