Erie Canal Behind Us and Mast Back Up

23 September 2015 | Catskill , NY and Rondout Creek
Light Winds and Cloudy
We finished locking through all of the locks. There were 29 in total. We arrived in Troy, NY around noon on Sat. We went to the farmers market and purchased some fresh veggies and bread. Then we had a thrilling time doing our laundry at the local downtown laundromat. The next day we traveled 5 hrs. to Hop-O-Nose Marina in Catskill, NY to put up the mast. At 10:00 the mast was up and then the work began. We had to connect all the rigging, put the boom back on, put the sails on, inflat the dingy, put it in the water and up on the davits, reconnect all of the wiring for the mast and finally giving Scheherazade a nice bath before entering salt water. At 8:00 we finally started cooking dinner. As we sat there we thought, it is nice to have the mast up, sails on and feeling like a sailboat again.

We left the next morning for Haverstraw Bay with our friends Pierre and crew on "Troika" a 37' Endavour. Pierre and Dean from Autumn Borne were very helpful in firming up our plans to go out around NJ and up the Deleware Bay. That evening we anchored at Haverstraw Bay in front of a park along with Troika.

The image you see is Rondout Lighthouse in Rondout Creek which was on our way to Haverstraw Bay.
