A Great Crossing to Nassau
04 January 2016 | Nassua Yacht Haven Marina
Partly Cloudy, 79 degrees, W. 6 mph
We left our anchorage at West Palm Beach Florida at 6:40 AM and went through the Lake Worth Inlet where we were greeted by a Carnival Cruise Ship. We had to pull over and let it pass before we could go on through the inlet. We had to motor sail during the passage due to light winds which is much better than too much wind and big waves. The winds were 5-10 and were 10 to 20 degrees true off the bow. There were many cruise ships and freighters keeping us company during the evening. There was one cruise ship that was on a collision course with us. So, Ron bumped up the speed and was able to position the boat so that the cruise ship passed behind the stern. All in all it was an uneventful passage. So 180 miles and 30 hours later we docked Scheherazade at the Nassua Yacht Haven Marina. We plan on staying here until an upcoming cold front passes and then we cross down into the Exumas Islands.
In the meantime we are meeting more cruisers heading to the Exumas who have lots of local knowledge that they are eager to share. So hopefully, the next time you hear from us we will be anchored at one of the beautiful cays in the Bahamas.
