Big Majors Spot and Cambridge Cay

Hello every one. As you know I have been negligent in posting our progress through the Exumas. Ron has been on my case all morning so here I am ready to bring you up to date. We left Warderick Wells on January 18 and traveled 17 NM to Big Majors Spot where the pigs roam free on the beach. The two highlights of this area are the pigs on Big Majors and snorkeling in Thunderball Cave located between Staniel Cay and Big Majors. So of course we did both. Some of the pigs are really big and then there are some little piglets that are really cute. I did feed them some carrots, (rather I threw carrots at them) but then I got a little scared when they continued to come towards me looking for more. Eventually they left me alone and I walked up the beach to see the piglets. While I was petting one of them, the piglet squealed bringing mama pig charging towards me. Now I was really scared. But I stood my ground and shooed her away. That evening we went to a sandy beach and met up with other couples for a happy hour/sundowners. The next day we went snorkeling in the Thunderball Cave/Grotto, the site used in movies such as Thunderball and Splash. The interior of the cave is like a small grotto with a large opening at the top where the sun shines through for a dazzling effect in the water. We saw various species of fish. We are hoping to visit this site again, as it was a little cloudy and breezy causing the water to be rough.
After going back to the protected anchorage at Warderick Wells, we rode out another four day breezy cold front passage. Next we moved south again to Cambridge Cay. Because of our 6'7" draft we needed to arrive close to high tide and with the sun overhead so that we could read the water to pick the shoaling sands and coral heads. This was a little unnerving. There was a narrow passage where the depth was only 7 '5" which is less than one foot of water under our keel. Once we arrived at the mooring field, we were greeted by a nice couple Lynn and Larry from the M/V Seaquel who helped us secure our lines to the mooring ball. This was an unexpected treat. We usually have to do this task alone which can become stressful at times. The highlights of this anchorage are the snorkeling, walking along secluded beautiful beaches with pristine water and groomed hiking trails. Over the next few days, while waiting for yet another cold front to move through, we plan on continuing to enjoy what Cambridge Cay has to offer.
