Better Weather

Well, I hesitate to say we're into the better weather but it does look that way. We've been heading SSW all day and have been making pretty decent headway. No rain squalls or dead wind periods today. Such a nice change of pace to actually be able to sail (as oppose to struggle). Also of great relief was a night that was NOT filled with the continual adjustment of course and sail. It made for a restful night.
After breakfast we set about the morning chores of refilling the genset with fuel and inspecting the boat and rigging. As Morgan was fiddling with one of the jerry cans of diesel amidships, I found myself looking at the fishing rod thinking that Morgan needs to catch a good fish and that I hope that none bite while he's tied up. About 30 seconds later, there was a bite on the line. As I was the only one available to attend to it, I grabbed the rod and politely asked Morgan to slow the boat down when he was finished. In good conscience I couldn't continue to fight this fish and handed it off to Morgan. It was another female Mahi Mahi, about the same size as the one I caught but since we still had plenty of this fish in the freezer we released this one.
At one point this afternoon we went to run the genset and it stopped after a couple minutes. Started it again and it ran for a few seconds and died. Hmmm.... bad fuel? Morgan and I went about checking it (fuel, spark plugs, carburetor,...) We were considering more drastic measures when we realized the the oil was slightly low. This coupled with the heel of the boat underway caused the unit to trip. We had a good chuckle that two mechanical engineers skipped over the obvious and were diving into the more subtle, complex possibilities for the problem. We chalked it up to our instinctive desires to tear down the engine in the cockpit just for fun...
Well, it is time for me to grill up some Mahi Mahi steaks for dinner.
