34.44' N 74.24' W November 04, 2104 We departed Hampton at 0720 yesterday morning in a very light wind. We ended up motoring and motor sailing for part of the day. Early last evening the wind filled in and we have been sailing since. Entered the Gulf Stream around 4 AM. Although I have read about it, it was still interesting. The water temperature jumped from 15 C to 28 C in about 20 minutes. In the middle of the stream we were seeing a maximum of 3 kts of current. The seas were "confused" in the strongest current areas. We had both a 6' swell from the North East and another steeper set from the North West associated with the wind. Liken to "wailing in a washing machine". All said though, it went pretty smooth and was nothing like we have experienced on Lake Superior. It is around 9 AM eastern as I write this. It looks like a nice clear day ahead but the wind is supposed to die down. Oh well. We do have a crew member, Dave, on board coming for the experience. He is great and he did bring a satalite tracking device along with him.
