N 25.08; W 64.05 Hedonism Outbound 46 November 10, 2014 Well, here we are at day 7. It is hard to believe that we have been underway for 7 days. Here are some stats so far for Hedonism this trip / year: Miles since leaving Superior WI: 3171 NM Miles since leaving Hampton with the Salty Dawgs: 1064 NM Miles to BVI's: 400 NM While the winds cooperated for the first few days they have not been great lately. For the last day and a half we have been sailing almost due east in brisk winds. Last night at 2 AM and at 63.55 E we furled the genoa, started the motor and turned south with the hope that the wind forecast is correct; the east trades would start to fill in. Going as far east as we did we were hoping that we could just sail southbound since SE winds were called for instead of due east. Well, at about 10 AM the wind did shift and we are now sailing again with winds at around 140 degrees @ 17 knots. Glad that we did that extra "easting", we are having a great sail doing between 7 and 7.8 knots. It looks like we will be arriving at destination late Wednesday night so let's say Thursday morning. We won't go in to an unfamiliar anchorage in the dark unnecessarily. We will just slow the boat down on Wednesday if needed. We do have little or no wind forecast for Wednesday afternoon and Thurs day as well. And, we had Sashimi last night. Both Mahi and Tuna. Unfortunately, it was the Costco brand... I finally got my line in the water today so I am hoping for fresh fish. Quite a few of the other boats have been successful.
And it is HOT out. Not complaining but we all need to get acclimatised. It doesn't help that most of the hatches are closed (spray). All the fans are going and it is 89 degrees in the cabin. Water temperature is about 84 as well.
One last note, we want to thank Gaston Saada of Tidewater Marine Services in Hampton. While we did not have Gaston do any work on our boat he had no problem coming on board and offering suggestions. Gaston was a great help and we do want to let him know that we appreciated the advice and the "going away" gift. Thanks Gaston! All is going well! Bob + Laurie
