Monday April 02, 2018 - Day 9 at sea Into the Southern Hemisphere! Well, yesterday was Easter, April Fool's Day and the day we crossed the Equator just north of the Galapagos Islands. Busy day.... All well. No wind until Sunday morning and then it filled in nicely around 11:30 am. Kept picking up so we had to do a quick sail change and went along until just before midnight when it died completely. Sea is still like glass at 3 pm on Monday. We are just motoring very slowly to conserve fuel and yet, to get us to the trades. We expect the trades by Thursday - we hope. We crossed the Equator yesterday at about 2:30 pm. Champagne toast and all! We ended up passing through the busy parts of the Galapagos around midnight. And yes, it IS busy. We had to change course 3 times around midnight for 5 vessels in all. 2 had AIS and the other 3 did not. We saw their lights and picked them up on Radar. Two passed within one mile of us. On Saturday night we were visited by birds again; this time Mr. and Mrs. Frigate. Mrs. Took up residence on our dinghy and Mr. on top of the satellite antenna. Unfortunately, Mrs. Frigate fell off (in her sleep?) and landed in the water. Frigates do not swim. She thrashed in the water and Mr. did not notice her departure. He left after about 30 minutes of her going over board but her fate remains unknown. Frigates are known to dive and pull others out of the water though....
