Thursday April 12, 2018 - Day 19 at sea Well, it is finally sunny again with some cloud. Yesterday the wind backed so we were able to set out our whisker pole and fly both head sails together. Twizzle rig some call it. That gave us a speed boost. Up over 8 kts a good chunk of the day with a max speed of 10.6 kts. We reefed the genoa to slow down though. We do not want anything to break out here, 1,800 miles from land. Still, it gave us a 168 miles for the day though which is only an average of 7 kts over 24 hours but fine with us. If we can keep that average we will be happy. We keep reminding ourselves, we are not in a race! This morning the wind did veer more southerly again so the twizzle rig is gone for now. The forecast is looking like the wind will back again mid-week next week. Seas are still funky but not quite as bad. We do get the odd side wave that hits the Port side of the hull and drenches the entire boat. Hatches are closed so a little warm down below, all normal though.
Oh, the beer situation is good. Not too much drinking on board underway. Saving it for the arrival party!
