April 10, 2022 – Moorea
Well, it has been a while since I updated.
We departed Maupiti back on October 11 as I had doctor appointments in Tahiti. We did the passage direct in 25 hours thanks to a north wind!
We initially anchored at the airport anchorage. Frankly, I have had some health issues and we needed to tend to them. We were able to move into Marina Taina in January while I completed various treatments.
During this time, we were able to apply for and received Government Health Insurance (CPS) here. It was a bit of a process but we are now both covered in much the same way as OHIP in Ontario.
After thinking long and hard and given my current health situation, we decided that we will remain in French Polynesia for the foreseeable future. Our tax “Exemption” on Hedonism was running out at the end of March so we went ahead and paid the import tax. So, Hedonism is now “Papeeteized” as they call it here.
And thanks to the marina manager, we were able to secure a full-time, long-term slip in the marina. In fact, it is in the most secure location in the marina (and 2 boats away from the manager’s boat). No, it is NOT our intention to stay in the marina full-time. We now have a permanent “home base” so we can come and go as we please and travel back to Canada more often as well.
We finally were able to get out sailing 2 days ago and are currently in Moorea for a bit until my next appointment after Easter. We will then have about 4 weeks to go sailing before we fly back home (it has been almost 3 years) to visit.
So, not much to report as we have not been anywhere! Well, I did get flown to France for tests….
