Welcome new blog readers LeeAnn,Jack n Ginny! We are on our last leg of the Erie canal. We’ve been fortunate on so many fronts. Only had two days of light rain that didn’t slow us down, no stifling humidity or hot days & so far no bugs. However I came across our 1st mayfly on the deck this morning. In Sandusky each year for a couple of weeks they are so thick plastered on our buildings & sometimes piling up at the base of the restrooms. Very crunchy! 🤮 Guess I would prefer all these cotton balls flying around.
It’s another gorgeous day as we finish up the Erie Canal. Last night another boat stayed on the wall with us. Started out early and are going through the Lift bridges together. He’s a power boat so it’s very kind of him.(we R much slower)
I can’t get over how different the canal is between central NY and western NY. In Central New York there are multiple Locks and they are close together. The towns that they are near generally are bustling & provide nice restrooms and many restaurants , DD and etc. In western New York they have multiple LIFT bridges. The dockmaster may work a couple Of these so U call ahead and have to wait a bit. Western NY the scenery seems more farmland/ smaller quieter villages. All in all it’s incredible the same elevation for miles and miles! Multiple people walking and riding bikes along the way. Thank you NY thruway for the Amazing up keep..! We just finished lock #34 and 35. Now we’re at the same level as Lake Erie. It’ll be a busy time getting our mast back up, sails on for going across Erie.
VENTURE ON. BRENDA
