The Matts

Matt M. & Matt D.

We met these two young men in Salt Pond, Long Island. Before we met them, we referred to them as The Boys. Then we learned both of their names were Matt. We then referred to them as The Matts. There is no boat name printed on their boat, so one day I ask Matt D. about it. He says it's named "The Great Mysterious"! I say ah, well why don't you have your boat's name on it? He responds, well then it wouldn't wouldn't be mysterious, would it? Can't argue with that. We found out Matt D is the owner and captain of his 27' Watkins sailboat and sailed it from Delaware. Matt M. is a true greenhorn to sailing. Matt D. searched on line for a crew mate to help him sail back to Florida. Matt M. was his answer. We wished them well and safe travels.

Richard & I were on the beach next to the Chat n Chill and there we find The Matts! We were happy to see them again and chatted for several minutes. I already knew that Matt D is a Sous Chef. I made a deal with him. He could come cook dinner for me in my galley and I would clean up mess. He loved the idea. So that's what we did. I thawed out some mahi-mahi, baked some brownies and made 3 liters of cola. He brought everything else to make, what else....but fish tacos of course. It was great eating and great conversation all night long. Matt D. is knowledable in regards to sailing and his boat. Matt M is like a sponge and is loving all the boat talk and lingo. The night lasted well in to the morning. The Boys left around 2am taking with them a half empty bottle of rum. Oh, did I forget to mention they also brought a big tall bottle of rum. Really? Did you think we would drink 3 liters of cola straight up?
