Cas Cay - Mangrove Lagoon Marine Reserve and Wildlife Park

09 December 2015
I have a little rant.

We were told by a local live-aboard, that we had anchored in a protected zone and needed to leave right away and were potentially subjected to a $1000 fine and confiscation of our possessions. I suspected something was wrong, since US Territories can't confiscate possessions from US citizens so easily.

But, we moved right away. It is impossible to keep up with every little law that exists, but we try to be good citizens.

Then I did my research, it was completely legal to anchor where we anchored for a maximum of 7 days, and I have the government documents and charts to prove it. We were well outside of the protected zone and within the general use area of the park. I should go back and confront this individual, but it is not worth the risk of having my boat trashed or cut anchor rode just to prove he is an asshole. I suspect that his motives were less than altruistic.

So, we move on... and leave the assholes behind.
