3hr Anchorage??? Cruz Bay

11 December 2015 | St John, US VI
Richard
Has anyone ever heard of a 3hr anchorage? Neither have I. It is not written up in our just purchased guide book for the Virgin Islands. But, we managed to find the 3hr anchorage, which has no signs or buoys indicating that it has a 3hr limit. So, this is now 3 days in a row that someone has told us to move for some un-documented rule. Who makes up these un-written rules??? And, why aren't they thoroughly discussed in our guide book? I'm really not digging the US Virgin Islands.

The guide books talk about getting rocked by the swell, it is not the swell that has been rocking us, it is the ferry boats that run every 45 minutes that lean the boats over sideways. You can't leave anything sitting on a table.

On the Plus side, the town at Cruz Bay is very nice, which is probably why they only allow 3hr anchoring where we anchored. The rest of the harbor was packed with permanently moored locals. They want us to spend our money and then get out!!! I love it when environmentalism and commercialism combine to destroy cruising.
