Benures Bay
18 December 2015 | Norman Island, BVI

We grabbed a temporary mooring near 'The Bight' then got in the dinghy and searched for a place to anchor. We found some places where we could anchor amoung the mooring balls, but that is not our preference. Around the corner we saw Benures Bay. The guide books say that the swell can be uncomfortable. However, as you can see in the picture above, in current weather conditions, there is no swell. The only rocking that we experience is from the very few motor yachts that fly by the harbor.
The island pictured above is Tortola Island. That's how close everything is.
We anchored only about 100ft from shore, but the depth is still 30ft with a nice sand bottom. While the wind should blow our stern away from the island, we are actually lying sideways against the island. The islands are tall, and the wind swirles as it passes over them. So, we had to carefully maintain a proper anchor rode scope to ensure that we didn't accidentally hit the shore line.
Cruising the Carribean without a windlass is difficult, but we're managing.
