Marina Ixtapa - Turner Guest Post

It snowed yesterday in Portland, it was 90 degrees plus yesterday four our first complete day in Ixtapa on Kent and Heather's boat, Hiatus. They started in Portland in July and have now made their way here before continuing on to Ecuador. Jumping off the boat to cool down seems logical but if the water itself doesn't kill you, the crocodiles might. They are not of your small, "aren't they cute variety" and have been known to remove dogs right off the dock.
We're taking our rental car to Morleia today which is about four hours inland. We'll either spend one or two nights out there before returning to the boat. The boat is working well. The drawers and cupboards are already childproofed. The hatch cover is now secure thanks to a bungee cord. We were a little concerned that the boat was going to be a baby disaster but other than the occasional shout of, "Ryan, Ryan, Ryan..."it has been going pretty well. We bought a small swim pool that is set up on the end of the dock above croc height. Well, upon further thought, not really above croc height. We may have to adjust thinking on this one now that we have actually seen the size of them. The larger of the two probably pushing 12 feet and his friend isn't much smaller.
Last night we had a cruiser's gathering on the dock. The sailors and the power boaters all get along well and it is especially luxurious for the sailors as the power boaters disgorge picnic tables and chairs onto the dock. There is a lot more creature comfort on a 43 power boat than there is on a 47 foot sailboat but both are very different creatures to meet the same goal: being on the water. Some folks have as many as a ten year cruising plan!
