Puesta del Sol

17 May 2008 | Nicaragua
Heather
There are not a lot of options for sailboats to stop in Nicaragua. Luckily Puesta del Sol Marina exists. It is a nice small marina smack dab in the middle of nowhere. We stopped here because this is where we picked up Glenn Belshaw. Glenn, who is friend of Kent's from way back taught Kent a lot about sailing. Glenn is pictured above showing us all how to properly kayak. He will be aboard for the next month with us as we go through Costa Rica and eventually down to Ecuador. Unfortunately for Glen he's also quite a handy guy and within 24 hours of his arrival he was vacuuming and refilling our refrigeration system in an attempt to improve its performance. I think he just likes his beer ice cold!

When we have friends visit, it is an opportunity to get items from the States. Glenn was lucky; we only had a few items for him haul down to us. First was a new digital camera - thanks to the economic stimulus refund check! Second was our mail and a big thank you goes out to Lisa Carter who collects, sorts out the junk and delivered the mail to Glenn before he left Portland. Third were some locks and long cables. Costa Rica has the reputation for petty theft so we now have 15' cables to run through our water jugs, gas jugs and kayaks that are above deck and of interest to thieves. Thank you to Kerry and Amy Poe of North Sails Oregon who always get our last minute requests for these random boat items and always seem to make it happen!
