Well we got underway today and made it to the end of the bay. We were the lead boat and s/v Zephyrus was following behind us when they gave us a call and told us their engine was overheating and they were turning around. We looked down at our gauge and everything was fine. I increased the throttle a bit and 5 minutes later our buzzer was going off. Supposedly the buzzer goes off if the engine overheats or if the oil is low. I always wondered if it works, well it does. I looked down and our temperature gauge was pegged. I shut off the engine right away, turned the boat around, and unrolled the genoa then jumped below to see what had happened.

It turns out the nut holding on the pulley for the water pump came loose and everything fell apart. We sailed back to the mooring and with the help of several cruisers got tied back up again. Within 15 minutes I had everything put back together, started the engine, and all is good. We are very lucky this happened while we were still in the bay and not trying to cross the bar where we would have been motoring straight into the wind.

Such is life, no damage done, we will go on tomorrows high tide. Uno Mas Cerveza por favor.
