Farewell San Blas, bring on Columbia!

We have stayed at some beautiful anchorages these last few days but getting to each one is a nail biter. The charts of this area are notorious for being off so we are grateful for the tested waypoints we have from a San Blas cruising guide but they go completely against our better judgment. They take us closer to land and reefs than we are comfortable, often seeing no more than 20 feet of water under the boat. Never a dull minute here, right now we are anchored in 7.5 feet of water and we draw 6.5 feet.
Yesterday and today we spent anchored in Isla Pinos which is the furthest east we will stop on the Panama coast. It is here where we had the opportunity to visit one of the most traditional Kuna villages. Upon arrival we were greeted and taken directly to the Saila (a Chief) for introduction. We handed over some clothes and US magazines which were quickly distributed and we were given a brief tour of the village. Cobin, Lara and Joe's 2 year old was a hit in the village with all the other little kids as well as with the adults. The following day we returned, again met with the Saila, this time to ask permission to take a short hike on the island, which was a nice way to stretch our legs before our passage.
Early tomorrow morning (Tuesday) we depart Panama for Cartagena, Columbia. We will be heading due east and it should take us anywhere from 24-40 hours, depending on our speed. The 'Christmas Winds' as they are called will not be in our favor but we are hoping not to get too ruffled on our way to Cartagena. We will be buddy boating with s/v Moody Blues which is reassuring as the Panama/Columbia coast is well known for drug running, which we of course want to stay away from. More to come ...
Picture above is of the Kuna chief at Isla Pinos. Typically it is not appropriate to take pictures of the Kunas but he asked that a photo be taken and printed for him. He was a bit shy but proudly is displaying himself in his best clothing for the occasion.
