Back in Big Majors Spot

3/2 - Today is the mail boat day so we went to town for fresh veggies and had lunch at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club - a nice greasy cheeseburger - yumm. We also purchased some wifi time and downloaded a bunch of email, etc. After a quick run to leave our trash at the dump, we headed back to High Stepper as the weather is suppose to get ugly for the next few days and it looked like it was starting to come in.
3/1 - Today we went to lunch, with Jane and Bob of Flextime, to Sampson Cay Marina where they have a $2 Tuesday special. We had 2 sliders for $2 and beers were $2.75 (beer is normally $4.00). This evening we had our friends from Runaway over and caught up on what they have been doing for the last month.
2/28 - More chores today! Checked the stuffing box and the flange that connects the engine to the propeller, added 6 gallons of diesel from a jerry jug, cleaned the grime and dirt out of the jugs, then went to Sampson Cay Marina and purchased 20 gallons of diesel. In the afternoon Doug finished cleaning the bottom of the boat and added a new zinc to the prop shaft.
2/27 - Today was the day to catch up on a lot of small boat chores. We cleaned the shower sump and drained the two jerry jugs of water we had on deck into the tanks. In the afternoon Doug hooked up the Hookah unit (an underwater breathing device) and scrubbed the marine life off of about 2/3 of the hull. There was not a lot of growth considering nothing had been done since the bottom of the boat was painted a year and a half ago.
2/26 - This morning the winds were light (10 Knots) from the southeast, so we motor sailed the 45 miles to Big Majors Spot. Here are a couple of interesting notes on the route. The water depth for the whole trip was between 15 and 20 feet, no more and no less. There is also an area of sand bores, ridges on the sea floor that run across the course. Just before a bore the depth will be 20 feet and as we cross the bore the depth will drop to 15 feet and then back to 20. These ridges are clearly visible. After we arrived in Staniel Cay and put the anchor down we had cocktails on Mystic with Flextime (a boat we met 2 years ago) and John and Wendy from Windemere, a 65 ft trawler. They have previously owned sail boats but made the big leap recently into their new boat.
