Arthur
We are tied to the town dock in Uturoa, Raiatea. This is the first time we've been at a dock since April -- Shelter Bay on the Caribbean side of Panama. We took a hike up to the top of a mountain peak here this morning. Very beautiful views of the islands, the reefs, the multicolored lagoons. We could also see the twin peaks of Bora Bora in the distance. Polynesian life has been interesting and laid back. There is an awful lot of French influence here, obviously--which makes it clear we are not off the beaten track at the moment. Fakarava in the Tuamotus felt off the beaten track. And several places in the Marquesas were off the beaten track. But the Society Islands are not. We are enjoying our time here, and have spent a fair bit of time with friends on other boats. We've said good bye to Heather and her Companion on Baracca as they are now likely to stay ahead of us until New Zealand. We've also said good by for now to Leigha, Cam, Fynn and Maya on Tranquility--though we hope to see them in NZ. And good bye's to Isabelle, who has flown back to Belgium after spending time on Tranquility. And we are likely to say goodbye to Stuart, Kylie and Samantha on Clementine very soon, as they will be pressing on towards Australia. We are still in company with Watermusick, but our paths will diverge before too long. Many mor e goodfriends and goodbyes to come.
We hope to haul out by the end of the week to take care of some repairs, hopefully the parts will arrive soon.
We will spend the week around Raiatea and Tahaa before the haul out. Then we will skip over to Bora Bora for a couple of days before saying good bye to French Polynesia.
Still working out where we will go--based on weather etc.
