Day trip to Labasa
24 June 2013 | Labasa, Fiji
Arthur
This past Saturday we took a bus trip from Savusavu to Labasa. Not quite a chicken bus, but not far off. It was almost three hours each way, with lots of stops to pick up people heading to Labasa. Most with wares for the big Saturday market. Labasa is an interesting town because it has a mostly Indian population. While we were there, we saw two parades. One was some sort of Hindu procession where people lie on the ground and a cart rolls over them. Later there was some sort of parade in honor of some sort of crime prevention campaign. Both were pretty interesting. Labasa was also interesting in that white people are not here very often. Many people came up to us to say hello and ask where we were from. And we saw lots of children pointing at us and getting their parents attention to see what they saw. One grandmother came up and wanted to give Rivers a hug. We also had a great indian lunch.
