I think I Remember How to Do This....

Even though Norma has GPS and a Chart Plotter, I still like to plot my course and waypoints on a paper chart as well. Its good for seeing the overall picture and a good back-up in case the elctronics fail.
I put the course and waypoints on the paper chart and write the latitude and longitude of each one down in a notebook. I also write down the compass heading and approximate distance to the next waypoint. This way, if I do have an electrical failure, I should be able to use the compass, my boat speed and my watch to get within shouting distance of my desired destination. I hope!
Anyway, I've also entered this information in my electronic Chartplotter, as well as my hand-held GPS so that my compass and dead-reckoning should be a last resort.
After six months of being out of the sailing biz, I feel like I'm learning this all over again! I've already started prepping the boat for going off-shore. Lots to do before I leave.
