Leaving the Carolinas again

25 August 2012 | Isle of Hope, GA
Mike
Well, we ended our stay in Charleston on the 24th and headed out before sunup to catch a bridge with a restricted opening schedule. We made the bridge ands continued on to Beaufort, SC. We spent one night at the Downtown Marina there before sailing on to Isle of Hope Marina in Georgia.

While at Isle of Hope, we availed ourselves of the courtesy car and went to the local Piggly Wiggly for provisions. The next day we were off early and headed to an anchorage in rural Georgia. This particular anchorage was on the Duplin River and near a ferry landing. Despite some brisk winds and swift current, the anchor held and we spent a quiet night there.

The next morning we headed for Jekyll Island Marina in southern Georgia. We made it there after getting hit by one of the rain bands from Isaac. Even this far from the center, they still get your attention. We made it safely to our marina in the early afternoon.

That evening we were lucky enough to have dinner with my Uncle Joe and Aunt Jan who live on nearby St. Simon's Island. Its always great to see them and the time always seems to go by way too fast.

Here is a sunset picture from our anchorage on the Duplin River.
