3 Islands in 3 Days!
06 August 2008 | Mackinac Island
Mike
Today, we were up at "O'dark-thirty" and out of the harbor before 0800. Big Brother Dave (AKA Cookie) made scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast as we were leaving.
We had a brisk motor-sail (seems to be the theme when we're wanting to get somewhere...) to the pass through Gray's Reef and into the Straits of Mackinaw.
We saw only one big container ship. For some reason I expected more. We crossed under the Mackinaw Bridge without incident and sailed into the harbor on Mackinac Island.
WOW.....it was like sailing into Disney Land and tying up at the "It's a Small World" ride. This place is incredibly beautiful. Very clean....no motorized vehicles (except police, fire, ambulance...) Anyway, I'll add a photo album later.....
After we arrived, I opened my new bottle of "Sweet Bitch" wine, courtesy of Terri.... (thanks!) then headed for the shower
We're staying here for a couple of days. Hey, we've been "at sea" for 12 to 20 hours a day for several days! I don't want the seeds of mutiny to take root......besides....dehydration is a sailor's worst enemy! (So I've heard....)
More details about Mackinac Island to follow. Here's a pic from going under the bridge.
